Water Conservation Demonstration Gardens in the Panhandle

The University of NE-Lincoln Extension, the South Platte Natural Resources District and the Cheyenne County Commissioners and Maintenance Personnel worked together to establish two gardens for the community of Sidney, NE to learn more about low water use plants adapted to the local climate. Plants are labeled for easy identification.

This Xeriscape demonstration was established in 1994. Over 100 different plants, including bulbs, trees, perennials and shrubs are featured.

 

 

South Platte Natural Resources District Office Xeriscape Demonstration Garden

This garden was established in 1995 and features several native plants, as well as non-native plants adapted to drier climates and higher elevations. Sidney's annual precipitation is 16" per year and the elevation is nearly 4000 ft.
