Is your septic system in need of repair or replacement?
Financial assistance may be available.
Why? When septic systems fail, inadequately treated wastewater is released into the environment. Contact with untreated waste can pose significant health risks, and untreated wastewater from failing septic systems can contaminate surface water, groundwater, and drinking water sources. Some property owners may find it difficult to pay for needed repairs or replacement of systems that are not properly treating wastewater.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality; Lower Platte North Natural Resources District; Nebraska Environmental Trust Fund; PrairieLand Resource, Conservation, and Development Council; University of Nebraska–Lincoln Extension; Natural Resources Conservation Service; and the Shell Creek Watershed Improvement Group have teamed up in two programs to help protect water quality in certain portions of the Sand/Duck Creek and Shell Creek Watersheds.
Attractive cost-share incentives have been established to assist with the implementation of wastewater treatment and other best management practices. Some residents of these two watersheds may be eligible for incentives that include:
- 60% cost-share (maximum of $300) for septic system inspection and tank pumping
- 60% cost-share (maximum of $3,000) to upgrade failing septic system to current standards
- Up to 100% cost-share for well decommissioning
- Several others including no-till planting and conservation buffers
Certain requirements, limitations, and guidelines apply. For further details on eligibility contact:
