In the article, which is part one of a two-part series, the author highlights the fact that manure is nature's recycling program. As the agriculture industry has changed from smaller, more-diversified farms that might have cattle, chickens, pigs, and grow the feed for them to more specialized operations that focus on just one aspect of the traditional farm, the need for connections between farms is more important than ever. This article discusses how nutrient management consultants connect livestock and poultry producers to crop farmers to utilize the manure nutrients most efficiently and make moving manure further from the livestock operation easier.
