Do I need a permit for my animal feeding operation?
Depending on the production size and the risk for surface water, an operation may be classified as a small, medium, or large animal feeding operation (AFO) or a concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO). The NDEQ will determine if an operation needs a permit following a site inspection. Detailed information about who needs a permits and what issues are addressed in a permit is available in the UNL Water Website. Nebraska’s online “Regulatory Guidance Tool” offers state permit information and county zoning contact information for a specified location, livestock species, feeding system and production size.
More information about permits can be accessed at NDEE Livestock Waste Control Program.
