How do I communicate based on shared values?

Communicating your commitment to local development, environmental stewardship and community well-being can help to establish good relationships with your neighbors. Social networks, community activities and media are ways to share how your operation is producing quality animal products responsibly. Be open to answering questions and concerns from your consumers and neighbors; it will build trust and demonstrate your value for responsible production.

Remember that you are communicating with people with different backgrounds. Non-farmer neighbors could have a different perspective of life in the country. Understanding your audience and adapting your message to them will facilitate sharing the values and positive impacts of your animal operation.

Be consistent with your principles and values and clearly share the ways you are taking care of your animals, the environment, and your community. If you are new in a location, finding someone that the audience trusts to communicate your message can help to connect with the neighbors and local authorities.
